After spending nearly thirty years integrating the relational databases of Government and commercial logistics systems, LMI began investigating the promise of NoSQL technology and Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) standards. Having worked the details of Government policy for more than 50 years, LMI recognized that it could deliver policy in a better way. By using a thesaurus to search documents via a web interface, the Government would be that much closer to moving from Open Data to Open Knowledge. This presentation will take you through the evolution of a semantic search service called OpenPolicy™. It describes the maturation of the idea via prototyping. And it will lay out the development of the final service, its features, its inputs and outputs, and the difficulties equating the cost of improving search to savings.
